Overview

The Amylin receptor 1 (AMY1) is a heterodimeric G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) formed by the association of the calcitonin receptor (CTR) and the receptor activity-modifying protein 1 (RAMP1) [Source: IUPHAR/BPS Guide to Pharmacology]. As a member of the Class B GPCR family, it is primarily located in the hindbrain's area postrema, where it serves as a key mediator of energy balance and appetite control [Source: PubMed, PMID: 28232024]. Activation of the AMY1 receptor by its endogenous ligand, amylin, results in increased satiety, delayed gastric emptying, and the suppression of glucagon release following meals [Source: Nature Reviews Endocrinology, PMID: 33531691]. These physiological roles make AMY1 a prime therapeutic target for metabolic conditions, particularly obesity and type 2 diabetes.
