Target intelligence / Profile preview
Amyloid beta (Aβ) oligomers are soluble aggregates of the amyloid beta peptide, derived from the amyloid precursor protein (APP). These oligomeric forms are distinct from monomers and insoluble fibrils/plaques and are considered key neurotoxic agents in Alzheimer’s disease pathogenesis. They disrupt synaptic function by binding to cell surface receptors and induce tau phosphorylation.
AβO binding triggers redistribution of critical synaptic proteins and/or membrane insertion.
