Angiogenesis (secretion of angiogenic factors)

Molecular classification
Growth factor signaling pathway, Extracellular matrix remodeling, Cytokine signaling pathway
01

Overview

Angiogenesis is the physiological process through which new blood vessels form from pre-existing vessels. The secretion of angiogenic factors initiates a cascade involving the release of chemical signals from hypoxic or injured tissues, binding to receptors on endothelial cells, leading to endothelial cell activation, proliferation, migration, and differentiation. This process is essential for normal growth, development, wound healing, and tissue repair, but also plays a critical role in pathological conditions such as cancer. Therapeutic strategies targeting this pathway include angiogenesis inhibitors that block key molecules like VEGF or its receptor signaling pathways.
