AOX3P-AOX2P readthrough, transcribed pseudogene is a naturally occurring fusion transcript resulting from transcriptional readthrough between two unprocessed, unitary pseudogenes— AOX3P and AOX2P—located adjacent to each other in the human genome. Both parental pseudogenes are related to the aldehyde oxidase gene family but do not encode active enzymes. Like most pseudogenes, AOX3P-AOX2P does not produce a functional protein and is not known to have a role in normal physiology or disease. The biological significance of this readthrough transcript is not experimentally established. While some pseudogenes can regulate gene expression or have roles in disease via RNA-mediated mechanisms, no such findings are reported for AOX3P-AOX2P specifically.
