Overview

Arf-GAP with coiled-coil, ankyrin repeat and PH domain-containing protein 3 (ACAP3) is a protein encoded by the ACAP3 gene on chromosome 1p36.33. It belongs to the ACAP family of GTPase-activating proteins (GAPs) for ADP-ribosylation factor (Arf) family GTPases, specifically showing GAP activity for Arf6. ACAP3 contains multiple functional domains, including a BAR domain, pleckstrin homology (PH) domain, coiled-coil region, and ankyrin repeats, suggesting roles in membrane remodeling and intracellular signaling. ACAP3 is expressed in neurons where it regulates neurite outgrowth and neuron migration via its Arf6-GAP activity, with essential roles in neural development. Disease associations include congenital myasthenic syndromes and late-onset Parkinson's disease. There are currently no drugs known to target ACAP3 directly, and its specific functions and mechanisms in disease processes remain subjects of active research
