Arginine deiminase Overview
Arginine deiminase (ADI) is an enzyme that catalyzes the hydrolysis of L-arginine to L-citrulline and ammonia. It plays a key role in arginine catabolism in bacteria and has been studied as an anti-cancer agent due to its ability to deplete arginine in tumors that cannot synthesize it.
Mechanism of Action
Depletes extracellular arginine, depriving argininosuccinate synthetase-deficient tumors of this essential amino acid.
