Overview

The armadillo repeat containing, X-linked 2 pseudogene (ENSG00000229858) is a nonfunctional segment of the human genome closely related to the functional *ARMCX2* gene, which encodes a protein containing armadillo repeats. Pseudogenes such as this arise by gene duplication or retrotransposition and lack the capacity to encode a functional protein product due to accumulated mutations or loss of regulatory elements. This category of genomic elements is generally not transcribed or translated into active proteins, and is usually not involved in biological processes or diseases, nor are they recognized as therapeutic targets. Occasional regulatory roles for pseudogenes (such as generating non-coding RNAs) have been described in the literature for other specific pseudogenes, but there is currently no evidence that the ENSG00000229858 pseudogene exerts such functions. For reference, the functional *ARMCX2* gene produces an armadillo-repeat-containing protein that may be implicated in cell signaling or cancer biology, but ENSG00000229858 is specifically classified as a nonfunctional pseudogene. If you require information on the functional protein ARMCX2, not the pseudogene, please clarify.

Mechanism of action

None (not applicable for pseudogenes)

03

Biological functions

None (pseudogenes are generally nonfunctional DNA sequences, though some may have regulatory roles at RNA level)
04

Disease associations

None (there is no evidence this specific pseudogene is involved in disease; some pseudogenes elsewhere in the genome can have regulatory effects, but not established here)
