Target intelligence / Profile preview
ATP-binding cassette sub-family A member 17, pseudogene (ABCA17P) is a human pseudogene belonging to the ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporter superfamily, related by sequence to the functional transporter genes but itself is non-protein-coding.[1][2][6] ABCA17P is a ubiquitously transcribed pseudogene that may be involved in gene regulation; some ABC transporter pseudogenes, including ABCA17P, are transcriptionally active and may exert regulatory effects on the expression of related protein-coding genes, but do not encode functional transport proteins.[2][6] ABCA17P is predicted to have possible roles in neutral lipid metabolism based on its sequence homology and gene context, but there is no direct evidence for transporter activity or therapeutic targeting.[3][4] There are currently no drugs or therapies that target ABCA17P, and it is not classified as a therapeutic target; its main significance is as a member of the transcribed pseudogene complement of the human genome.[2][3][6] Key points: - ABCA17P is a pseudogene, not an active transporter, and not used as a drug or therapeutic target. - It is transcribed, with potential (but unproven) regulatory functions, and may have predicted associations with lipid metabolism and certain cancers, but no clear mechanistic or disease role is established.[2][3][4][6]
