ATP-binding cassette sub-family C member 13 (pseudogene) (ABCC13)

Target
ABCC13
Molecular classification
Transporter (pseudogene, not functional in human)
01

Overview

ATP-binding cassette sub-family C member 13 (ABCC13) is part of the ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporter superfamily and specifically a member of the multidrug resistance-associated protein (MRP) subfamily. In humans, ABCC13 is a pseudogene, meaning it is incapable of encoding a functional transporter protein[1][2][4][6]. Although related ABC transporters are involved in cellular efflux of drugs or metabolic products, the human ABCC13 locus does not produce a functional protein and has no established biological, disease, or pharmacological role[2]. Legacy evidence suggests its RNA may be expressed in some tissues, such as fetal liver, but functional protein is absent. The gene may have orthologs in other species where a functional protein is present, but in humans it is nonfunctional[2][3].
