Overview

ATPase H+ transporting V0 subunit c pseudogene 4 (ATP6V0CP4) is a human pseudogene—an inactive, non-protein-coding genomic sequence related to the well-characterized ATP6V0C gene, which encodes the c subunit of the V0 domain in vacuolar H+-ATPase (V-ATPase). While the parent gene (ATP6V0C) participates in acidifying intracellular organelles critical for processes such as protein sorting and synaptic vesicle function, ATP6V0CP4 is not believed to encode a functional protein. Some pseudogenes are capable of regulating their cognate parent genes or affecting broader gene networks through noncoding RNA mechanisms, but there is currently no evidence for a specific biological or disease association for ATP6V0CP4 itself. It is cataloged in genomic and genetic association databases but is not a therapeutic target.

Biological functions

Possible regulatory noncoding RNA function (pseudogenes in general may regulate parental gene expression via mechanisms such as acting as miRNA decoys, producing antisense transcripts, or competitive endogenous RNAs)
03

Disease associations

Other (No direct disease association for ATP6V0CP4, but pseudogenes can influence gene networks implicated in cancer and other diseases via RNA-based regulation)
