Unlike its protein-coding paralogs (such as ATP6V0E1), ATP6V0E1P4 does not produce a functional protein and therefore does not participate in biological processes directly. While some pseudogenes have regulatory effects at the RNA level (such as RNA interference or miRNA decoy activities), no such function has been described for ATP6V0E1P4.
