ATPase H+ transporting V1 subunit G1 pseudogene 4 (ATP6V1G1P4) is a human pseudogene related to the gene encoding a subunit of the vacuolar ATPase (V-ATPase), which plays a role in acidifying intracellular organelles in eukaryotic cells[3]. As a pseudogene, ATP6V1G1P4 does not encode a functional protein. Most pseudogenes, including ATP6V1G1P4, arise from duplication or retrotransposition events and typically acquire disabling mutations that prevent them from being translated into functional proteins[1]. Some pseudogenes, in general, may regulate their parent or related genes via noncoding RNA mechanisms, such as acting as competitive endogenous RNAs (ceRNAs) or microRNA “decoys,” which can have downstream regulatory effects in cellular biology and disease, including cancer—but there is no current evidence that ATP6V1G1P4 itself serves this function[1][5].
