Avibacterium paragallinarum antigen refers to the immunogenic components of the Gram-negative bacterium responsible for infectious coryza, a severe respiratory disease in poultry (Blackall & Soriano-Vargas, 2020). The most critical antigen for protection is the hemagglutinin protein, specifically the HMTp210 protein, which facilitates bacterial attachment to the host's respiratory epithelial cells (Wu et al., 2014). Other significant antigens include various outer membrane proteins (OMPs) and lipopolysaccharides (LPS) that contribute to the pathogen's virulence and structural integrity. These antigens are classified into three primary serogroups (A, B, and C) according to the Page scheme, which is essential for ensuring vaccine efficacy due to limited cross-protection between groups (Page, 1962). In veterinary medicine, these antigens are the active components in inactivated bacterin vaccines designed to elicit a robust humoral immune response (Sun et al., 2011). The primary mechanism of action for these vaccines is the induction of antibodies that inhibit hemagglutination, thereby preventing bacterial colonization (Mendoza-Espinoza et al., 2001). Monitoring the efficacy of these antigens in a clinical setting typically involves measuring hemagglutination inhibition (HI) titers in the serum of vaccinated birds. Targeting these antigens is a cornerstone of poultry health management, as infectious coryza leads to significant economic losses through decreased egg production and increased mortality.
