Overview

The B-cell receptor (BCR) specific for influenza A(H1N1)pdm09 antigens is a membrane-bound immunoglobulin complex essential for the adaptive immune response against the 2009 pandemic H1N1 virus. These receptors are expressed on the surface of B lymphocytes and are responsible for the direct recognition of viral proteins, most notably the hemagglutinin (HA) and neuraminidase (NA) glycoproteins. Upon antigen binding, the BCR triggers a signaling cascade that leads to B-cell activation, clonal expansion, and differentiation into plasma cells that secrete neutralizing antibodies. This process is the fundamental mechanism by which influenza vaccines, such as the H1N1 monovalent vaccines, confer protection by acting as agonists for these receptors. In the context of disease, the specificity and affinity of these BCRs determine the effectiveness of viral clearance and the breadth of cross-reactivity against drifted strains.
