Basic leucine zipper nuclear factor 2, pseudogene (BLZF2P) is a genomic locus that resembles the basic leucine zipper nuclear factor 2 gene but contains disabling mutations (such as frameshifts or stop codons), rendering it biologically inactive as a protein-coding gene. Pseudogenes are sometimes transcribed, and may participate in RNA-level regulation in some cases (e.g., as competitive endogenous RNAs or microRNA sponges in rare instances), but no evidence suggests BLZF2P has such a function. BLZF2P is not considered a validated therapeutic target, biomarker, or disease gene.
