Molecular Classification
Pathogenesis-related protein class 10 (PR-10), Allergen
Other Names
Bet v1, Bet v 1a
Disease Roles
Birch pollen major allergen Bet v 1 Overview
Birch pollen major allergen Bet v 1 is the major allergen found in birch pollen (*Betula verrucosa*), responsible for triggering allergic reactions in a significant proportion of individuals with birch pollen allergy. It is the prototypical member of the pathogenesis-related protein class 10 (PR-10) family. Its structure includes a hydrophobic cavity capable of binding various ligands, and surface-exposed regions responsible for cross-reactivity with homologous allergens.
