Bet v 2 Overview

Bet v 2 is a profilin protein and a minor allergen found in the pollen of the silver birch tree (Betula verrucosa). It is an actin-binding protein involved in regulating cell division, growth, and differentiation. As a profilin, it exhibits high sequence conservation across plant species, leading to cross-reactivity with other pollens and plant-derived foods, and is considered a panallergen. Sensitization to Bet v 2 can indicate birch pollen allergy and is associated with oral allergy syndrome (OAS). IgE antibodies against Bet v 2 are used as a biomarker for diagnosis and to guide patient-tailored immunotherapy.
