Beta-1,3-N-acetylgalactosaminyltransferase 2 pseudogene 1 is a human pseudogene, meaning it is a non-protein-coding DNA sequence similar to the functional B3GALNT2 gene but contains mutations that prevent it from encoding a functional protein. Pseudogenes arise through evolutionary gene duplication or retrotransposition and may retain some regulatory roles at the RNA level, such as acting as decoys for microRNAs or influencing the stability of transcripts for related genes.
