Beta-1,3-N-acetylglucosaminyltransferase 3 (B3GNT3) is an enzyme encoded by the B3GNT3 gene in humans. It is a type II transmembrane glycosyltransferase that catalyzes the transfer of N-acetylglucosamine (GlcNAc) residues via a beta-1,3 linkage to specific substrates, such as lacto-N-tetraose and lacto-N-neotetraose, leading to the biosynthesis of poly-N-acetyllactosamine chains. B3GNT3 plays a crucial role in the generation of sialyl Lewis a/x structures, which are important for L-selectin ligand biosynthesis, lymphocyte homing, and trafficking. Its activity also contributes to fundamental pathways in glycoprotein modification and immune cell behavior.
