Bladder calculus (for stones in the bladder) and Urethral calculus (for stones in the urethra)

Molecular classification
Other (mineral deposit; not a molecule or protein class)
01

Overview

Bladder and urethral calculi are hard mineral masses formed by crystallization of urinary solutes (such as calcium, uric acid, struvite, or cystine) within the bladder or urethra. Their formation is most commonly associated with conditions causing incomplete bladder emptying, urinary stasis, infection, or the presence of foreign bodies. Stones may cause irritative and obstructive urinary symptoms, hematuria, pain, and predispose to infection. Treatment is usually mechanical (minimally invasive removal, lithotripsy) and preventive through addressing risk factors like benign prostatic hyperplasia, neurogenic bladder, or chronic infection.
