Overview

Acellular pertussis antigens are purified components of *Bordetella pertussis* used in modern aP vaccines. They include pertussis toxoid (PT), filamentous hemagglutinin (FHA), pertactin (PRN), and sometimes fimbriae types 2 and 3 (FIM2/3). These antigens elicit an immune response, generating antibodies that neutralize toxins or block bacterial colonization, thereby preventing or reducing the severity of whooping cough. They are safer than whole-cell vaccines.
