Bordetella pertussis antigens (Pertussis Toxoid and Filamentous Haemagglutinin) (PT and FHA)

Target
PT and FHA
Molecular classification
Protein exotoxin/toxoid, Surface adhesin, Antigen
01

Overview

Bordetella pertussis antigens, specifically pertussis toxoid (PT) and filamentous haemagglutinin (FHA), are key components of acellular pertussis vaccines. Pertussis toxoid is an inactivated form of pertussis toxin, disrupting host cell signaling. Filamentous haemagglutinin is a surface-associated protein adhesin, facilitating attachment to respiratory epithelial cells. Both antigens induce strong humoral immune responses, leading to the production of neutralizing and adhesion-blocking antibodies, providing protection against whooping cough.
