Calcium adenosine triphosphatase in *Plasmodium*, specifically PfATP6 in *Plasmodium falciparum*, is a P-type ATPase enzyme responsible for transporting calcium ions (Ca²⁺) across cellular membranes. It regulates cytosolic Ca²⁺ levels by pumping calcium from the cytoplasm into the ER lumen, which is essential for parasite development, fertilization, and cell signaling. PfATP6 is a validated target for antimalarial drugs like artemisinins. Mutations such as S769N and L263E can alter drug sensitivity but may also incur fitness costs.
