Disease Roles
Calcium beta-hydroxy-beta-methylbutyrate Overview
Calcium beta-hydroxy-beta-methylbutyrate is the calcium salt form of beta-hydroxy-beta-methylbutyric acid (HMB), a naturally occurring metabolite of the amino acid leucine. As a dietary supplement, it is used to support muscle preservation and recovery, notably in sports nutrition or conditions causing muscle wasting. It is not a biological macromolecule, receptor, enzyme, transporter, or conventional drug target. Supplementation provides bioavailable HMB, which may modulate protein metabolism, but the compound itself is not a recognized molecular target for therapeutic drugs[1][2][4][5].
