Calmodulin 3 (phosphorylase kinase, delta) pseudogene is a nonfunctional segment of DNA in the human genome that closely resembles the protein-coding CALM3 gene, which encodes calmodulin 3, a calcium-binding regulatory protein. As a pseudogene, it is classified as "junk DNA," having originated from gene duplication or retrotransposition events. It does not produce a protein and does not participate in cellular signaling or metabolic processes. Its sequence similarity to functional calmodulin genes may have limited impacts on gene regulation or sequence analysis, but pseudogenes generally accumulate mutations, lack regulatory elements, and are not subject to selective pressure. They are typically annotated and tracked in genomic databases to improve genome annotation accuracy and avoid confusion with functional genes.
