Overview

Parenteral nutrition is a method of providing nutrition to patients intravenously, bypassing the gastrointestinal tract. It is used when oral or enteral feeding is not possible, insufficient, or contraindicated. PN delivers essential macronutrients (carbohydrates, amino acids, lipids) and micronutrients (electrolytes, vitamins, trace elements) to support metabolism, tissue repair, and growth. Careful monitoring is required to avoid complications such as metabolic disturbances and infections.
