Overview

Cancer susceptibility 23 (CASC23), also known as LINC01464, is a member of the cancer susceptibility (CASC) gene family, which encodes long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) transcripts greater than 200 nucleotides in length[1][2][3]. LINC01464 is specifically classified as a long intergenic non-coding RNA (lincRNA), meaning it is located between protein-coding genes and does not itself encode a protein product[2][3]. While the broader CASC family has been implicated in key cellular processes relevant to cancer—such as cell proliferation, epithelial–mesenchymal transition, invasion, and migration—major genetic and disease association studies to date have focused on other family members (e.g., CASC8, CASC15, CASC16, CASC17) rather than CASC23 itself[1]. LincRNAs, including CASC23, are known to function through diverse mechanisms such as modulating chromatin structure, acting as molecular scaffolds, and fine-tuning gene expression in a tissue-specific manner[2][4]. No drugs or targeted therapies are known to act directly on CASC23, nor is it described as a therapeutic target, biomarker, or safety concern in current literature[1][3]. Thus, while CASC23 falls under the broad class of cancer-associated long non-coding RNAs, its specific biological and clinical significance remains largely uncharacterized in the scientific literature.
