Candida albicans beta-1,2-mannan is a unique polysaccharide component of the outermost layer of the Candida cell wall, specifically characterized by its beta-1,2-linked mannosyl residues. It serves as a critical pathogen-associated molecular pattern (PAMP) that is recognized by the host's innate immune system through receptors such as Galectin-3 and TLR4, playing a dual role in both triggering pro-inflammatory responses and facilitating the fungus's escape from immune detection.
