Overview

Cardiomyocytes are the contractile cells of the heart. In cell replacement therapy, exogenous or engineered cardiomyocytes (often from pluripotent stem cells) are used to replace lost/damaged cells after myocardial injury, aiming to restore contractile tissue and cardiac function through remuscularization and paracrine effects.
