The cariogenic bacteria metabolism pathway, primarily associated with *Streptococcus mutans*, is the process by which these bacteria metabolize dietary sugars, especially sucrose, into organic acids, mainly lactic acid. This acid production leads to the demineralization of tooth enamel and the development of dental caries.
