CD46 Antigen (Membrane Cofactor Protein) (CD46)

Target
CD46
Molecular classification
Type I transmembrane glycoprotein, Complement regulatory protein
01

Overview

CD46, also known as Membrane Cofactor Protein (MCP), is a type I transmembrane glycoprotein that functions as a complement regulatory protein. It is ubiquitously expressed on most nucleated cells. The primary role of CD46 is to protect host cells from complement-mediated damage by acting as a cofactor for factor I–mediated cleavage of C3b and C4b, two key components of the complement system. It also modulates adaptive T helper type 1 (Th1) responses and functions as a co-stimulatory molecule during T cell activation.
