Overview

CEACAM16-AS1 (CEACAM16, CEACAM19 and PVR antisense RNA 1) is a primate-specific long non-coding RNA classified as a natural antisense transcript. It is transcribed from the opposite strand of a genomic region containing CEACAM16, CEACAM19, and PVR, but does not encode a protein. As an antisense RNA, it is believed to regulate gene expression through epigenetic and post-transcriptional mechanisms. Research suggests potential involvement in coordinating gene expression across different liver cell types and possible relevance in Crohn disease, although its precise biological roles and disease associations have not been fully characterized[1][3][4][6]. Being a non-coding RNA and not a receptor, enzyme, or classical drug target, it is not considered a therapeutic target at this time. Note: - The abbreviation and official name are correct, but the inclusion of three separate genes in the description indicates possible confusion or excessive scope. - There are no documented direct drug interactions, mechanisms of action, or validated biomarker utility for this transcript to date. - CEACAM16-AS1 should not be confused with CEACAM16 (a protein-coding gene and adhesion molecule involved in hearing), which is a distinct entity[5][7][9].
