Overview

Transmembrane protein 30C, pseudogene (TMEM30CP) is classified as a pseudogene in Homo sapiens. Unlike its protein-coding paralogs (such as TMEM30A and TMEM30B), TMEM30CP does not encode a functional protein. Pseudogenes are genomic DNA sequences similar to normal genes but are typically nonfunctional; they often result from gene duplication or retrotransposition and accumulate mutations rendering them transcriptionally or translationally inactive[4][5][6]. Although the name and some aliases may be shared with functional P4-ATPase beta subunit family members, there is no evidence that TMEM30CP product is biologically active, acts as a receptor, or serves as a therapeutic target[4][5][6]. There are no described roles in disease, no approved or experimental drugs, and no established use as a biomarker. Any mention of biological or therapeutic function refers to other family members, not TMEM30CP.
