Cellular components in Protoporphyrin IX (PpIX)-accumulating tissue refers to the specific intracellular environments, primarily the mitochondria and endoplasmic reticulum, where the endogenous photosensitizer PpIX reaches high concentrations in neoplastic or rapidly proliferating cells (Wachowska et al., 2011).
