C-C motif chemokine ligand 3-like 3 (CCL3L3) is a member of the CC chemokine family, classified as a cytokine involved in immune cell chemotaxis, particularly the recruitment of lymphocytes and monocytes to sites of inflammation[2][4][6]. It is a secreted protein and acts as a ligand for chemokine receptors CCR1, CCR3, and CCR5. CCL3L3 is notable for its ability to inhibit HIV-1 infection by competing with the virus for CCR5 binding, thus preventing viral entry into host cells[2][4]. Its gene exhibits copy number variation across individuals and populations, which has been linked to susceptibility or resistance to HIV infection as well as associations with other disorders such as autism spectrum disorder[2]. CCL3L3 participates in immune regulation and inflammatory response pathways and is part of a gene cluster on chromosome 17. Its modulation is a potential target for therapies affecting the immune and inflammatory responses, though direct pharmacological agents against this chemokine are not currently available.
