Autologous chondrocytes are mature cartilage cells harvested from a patient's own body and expanded in vitro for implantation into articular cartilage defects. The implanted cells synthesize extracellular matrix components, primarily type II collagen, to regenerate hyaline-like cartilage and restore joint function. This cell-based therapy aims to repair damaged cartilage in patients with symptomatic lesions.
