Coenzyme Q6 homolog, monooxygenase pseudogene

Molecular classification
Other (Pseudogene)
01

Overview

Coenzyme Q6 homolog, monooxygenase pseudogene is a nonfunctional DNA sequence in humans that resembles the functional COQ6 gene, which encodes an enzyme required for the biosynthesis of coenzyme Q10 (ubiquinone), a critical component of the mitochondrial electron transport chain. This pseudogene does not produce a functional protein and is classified as non-coding “junk DNA,” created via the inactivation or retrotransposition of the ancestral COQ6 gene. It is not known to have any biological function or disease relevance and is not a drug target.
