Collagen type I is the predominant protein in the dermis, forming strong fibrils that give skin its structure, tensile strength, and resilience. It is a triple-helical, fibrillar protein composed of three polypeptide chains, produced primarily by dermal fibroblasts, and is essential for tissue integrity, wound healing, and extracellular matrix architecture.
