Collectrin, amino acid transport regulator (CLTRN)

Target
CLTRN
Molecular classification
Transporter, Metabolic protein, Type 1 transmembrane protein
01

Overview

Collectrin, amino acid transport regulator (CLTRN), is a type 1 transmembrane protein that plays an essential role in the trafficking and regulation of neutral amino acid transporters on the apical membrane of renal proximal tubule cells, notably SLC6A18 and SLC6A19, as well as possible additional transporters. It facilitates amino acid reabsorption and may also regulate SNARE complex formation in pancreatic beta cells, influencing insulin secretion and beta cell replication. CLTRN is highly expressed in the kidney and pancreas and is implicated in rare disorders of amino acid transport (such as Hartnup disorder) and neuropsychiatric phenotypes when mutated[2][3][5][6].
