Complement component 1s subcomponent Overview

Complement component 1s (C1s) is a serine protease and a key enzyme in the classical pathway of the complement system. It forms part of the C1 complex, together with C1q and two molecules of C1r. Activated C1s cleaves complement components C4 and C2, which are critical for downstream events in the complement cascade including opsonization and cell lysis. Deficiency or dysfunction can result in immunodeficiency syndromes or contribute to autoimmune diseases.

Mechanism of Action

Serine protease; cleaves C4 and C2

Complement activation
Immune response
Opsonization
Cell lysis

Disease Associations

Immunodeficiency
Autoimmune diseases
Systemic lupus erythematosus
Hereditary angioedema
