Overview
Cow's milk protein antigen refers to the collection of proteins found in cow’s milk that can act as antigens, triggering immune responses in susceptible individuals. These proteins are the primary cause of cow’s milk protein allergy (CMPA), an immune-mediated reaction most commonly seen in infants and young children. Major protein components include caseins (αs1-, αs2-, β-, κ-caseins) and whey proteins (β-lactoglobulin, α-lactalbumin). These proteins can elicit IgE-mediated or non-IgE mediated allergic responses.
