Target intelligence / Profile preview
ATP regeneration via the phosphocreatine system" describes the process whereby creatine kinase catalyzes the reversible transfer of a high-energy phosphate group from phosphocreatine to adenosine diphosphate (ADP), rapidly restoring adenosine triphosphate (ATP) levels to sustain muscle contraction and other energy-intensive cellular processes. This system serves as an immediate energy buffer, especially in tissues with fluctuating and high energy demands such as skeletal muscle, myocardium, and brain. The process is essential for maintaining ATP homeostasis during sudden increases in metabolic activity, and clinical measurement of creatine kinase (especially CK-MB isoform) serves as a biomarker for tissue damage, most notably in myocardial infarction.
Reversible transfer of phosphate from phosphocreatine to ADP, regenerating ATP. Energy buffer during periods of rapid ATP demand.
