The *cupin* superfamily is one of the most functionally diverse protein families, with members displaying a conserved β-barrel fold and a wide range of catalytic, structural, and regulatory activities[1][2][3][4]. The cupin superfamily includes functional proteins involved in enzymatic reactions (e.g., dioxygenases, isomerases, decarboxylases, epimerases) and non-enzymatic processes (e.g., seed storage, transcription factor activity). However, CUPIN1P, as indicated by its designation as a pseudogene, does not encode a functional protein and thus does not participate in the biological processes or disease associations attributed to active cupin proteins. Pseudogenes generally result from gene duplication or retrotransposition events and are characterized by sequence alterations that prevent the production of a functional protein. Therefore, CUPIN1P is not considered a molecule of interest for therapeutic intervention.
