**Cytochrome c, somatic pseudogene 23 (CYCSP23)** is a non-coding pseudogene in the human genome located on chromosome 8; it is a non-functional genomic DNA segment derived from the parental cytochrome c (CYCS) gene, but lacking protein-coding ability. While pseudogenes have traditionally been considered "junk DNA," growing evidence suggests some may play roles in gene regulation at the RNA level, including acting as microRNA decoys or sources of regulatory RNAs, but there is no indication that CYCSP23 itself is a therapeutic target or involved in any recognized disease mechanism[1][2][3][4].
