Cytochrome c, somatic pseudogene 46 (CYCSP46) is one of 49 cytochrome c (CYCS) pseudogenes present in the human genome. As a processed pseudogene (typically formed by retrotransposition), it contains sequence similarity to the functional cytochrome c gene but lacks introns and harbors sequence disablements that prevent the production of a functional protein. CYCSP46 and its adjacent pseudogene HCP47 on chromosome Y appear to represent fragments of a once-complete pseudogene that underwent a chromosomal inversion. There is no evidence for expression or biological function of these pseudogenes, and they serve as markers of molecular evolution without known involvement in any disease or as therapeutic targets[1][3][4].
