Overview

Cytochrome P450 family 2 subfamily B member 7, pseudogene (CYP2B7P), also commonly referred to as CYP2B or CYP2B7, is a human pseudogene belonging to the cytochrome P450 superfamily. Unlike functional cytochrome P450 enzymes, which catalyze oxidative reactions crucial to drug metabolism and biosynthesis of endogenous compounds, CYP2B7P does not produce a functional protein. As such, it has no established role in biology, disease, or therapeutic intervention. It may, however, occur in gene clusters with other cytochrome P450 genes. The "pseudogene" designation means CYP2B7P contains sequence homology to other CYP2B genes but carries mutations or truncations that render it non-functional; it is not a therapeutic or pharmacological target[2]. - Cytochrome P450 family enzymes are generally of high biomedical interest for drug metabolism, but pseudogenes from this family (such as CYP2B7P) do not have known enzymatic or regulatory activity[2][3]. - Pseudogenes are occasionally implicated in gene regulation or evolutionary processes, but there is no evidence that CYP2B7P plays such a role in human physiology or pathology in a manner relevant to drug discovery or disease[2].
