Cytochrome P450 family 3 subfamily A member 52, pseudogene (CYP3A52P)

Target
CYP3A52P
Molecular classification
Pseudogene, Cytochrome P450 gene cluster, Other
01

Overview

CYP3A52P (cytochrome P450 family 3 subfamily A member 52, pseudogene) is a non-functional copy of a cytochrome P450 (CYP) gene within the cluster of CYP3A genes on human chromosome 7. Like other pseudogenes, it shares sequence similarity with functional CYP3A genes but contains mutations or deletions rendering it incapable of encoding an active enzyme. While the CYP3A subfamily plays a key role in drug metabolism and steroid biosynthesis, CYP3A52P itself has no known functional, pharmacological, or disease role, but its presence is relevant to genomic annotation and may impact molecular diagnostic assays[2][3].

Other names
CYP3A43-de4c6ccytochrome P450, family 3, subfamily A, polypeptide 52, pseudogene

Mechanism of action

None; not a functional gene, protein, or therapeutic target

03

Safety considerations

Pseudogenes such as CYP3A52P can cause complications in genetic testing (e.g., PCR assays may not distinguish between highly similar pseudogene and functional gene sequences, leading to potential genotyping errors)
