Overview

Cytochrome P450 family 3 subfamily A member 54, pseudogene (CYP3A54P) is a human pseudogene located within the CYP3A locus on chromosome 7. It shares homology with active CYP3A genes such as CYP3A4, which are critical for the metabolism of drugs and steroids, but CYP3A54P itself does not code for a functional protein due to disabling mutations. While pseudogenes can sometimes participate in the regulation of gene expression—for example, by acting as microRNA decoys—there is no established evidence of such a role for CYP3A54P. CYP3A54P is one of four pseudogenes (CYP3A51P, CYP3A52P, CYP3A54P, CYP3A137P) associated with the CYP3A family and is not considered a therapeutic target, biomarker, or locus for drug interactions.
