Overview

Cytochrome P450 family 4 subfamily A member 27, pseudogene (CYP4A27P) is annotated as a pseudogene in the human genome, part of the cytochrome P450 superfamily. Unlike true cytochrome P450 enzymes, CYP4A27P is not known to encode a functional protein and does not participate directly in metabolic pathways. While there is emerging evidence that some pseudogenes can be transcribed and may affect gene regulation, there is currently no established function, disease association, or therapeutic relevance for CYP4A27P. Instead, its annotation reflects sequence similarity to other CYP4A family members without functional consequences. CYP4A27P is a noncoding pseudogene, not a drug metabolizing enzyme. It shares sequence similarity with functional members of the CYP4A subfamily, which are fatty acid metabolizing enzymes, but lacks enzymatic activity. No therapeutic applications, drug interactions, or known disease associations are attributed to CYP4A27P. Pseudogenes in general may have regulatory roles via RNA transcripts, but this is unconfirmed for CYP4A27P specifically.
