Overview

Decaprenylphosphoryl-beta-D-ribose 2'-epimerase (DprE1/DprE2 complex) is an essential enzyme in mycobacteria, including Mycobacterium tuberculosis, responsible for synthesizing decaprenylphosphoryl arabinose (DPA), a crucial precursor for cell wall components. It catalyzes the epimerization of decaprenylphosphoryl-beta-D-ribose (DPR) to DPA. As it's absent in humans, it's a validated drug target for anti-tubercular agents. Inhibition disrupts cell wall biosynthesis, leading to bacterial death.
